Here's to JavaScript, may it always be a key "force" as we further delve into the eclectic nature of the web.
I also agree with what Ben said, "Streaming two way connections (or whatever you call them) for realtime interaction".
I don't have an iPhone so I don't know but if it's not being done already, stream-live over the phone. Pretty slick.

i agree with most of your points but I hope that the langage itself will be upgraded or a new equivalent will come to the fore. i mean that javascript with frameworks like prototype is great but it proves that the basic javascript langage has some (known) lacks. syntax is a little bit old fashioned too.

You left out a few things I think will be important:

* Streaming two way connections (or whatever you call them) for realtime interaction.

* 3D canvas support in javascript

* JIT compiled javascript eventually running faster than c/c++

Happy new year Thomas! :)

I also agree with all your points, and the SSB's are the particular ones which are interesting to me, I also very much hopeful about the "webkit" as a platform, and to me the problem with "gecko" is that it carries all the baggage like XUL, though it was a useful thing but doesn't have enough relevance now. Anyway, being a JavaScript programmer myself, I think this decade belongs to JavaScript :-) LOL

"And of course, JavaScript will continue to be the world’s #1 programming language ..."

I certainly hope so :D I have high hopes for it. Especially with the additions of ES5 and HTML5, combined with the everlasting CSS3 specs... things are certainly going to be interesting.

Regarding JavaScript dominance, can you recommend some beginner/intermediate resources for learning the language?

Btw, the decade starts with 2011, so there's plenty of time to correct the predictions. :)

@sethaurus I mean that Flash won't come preinstalled (it's not on Windows, for example, but is on OS X).

But, yes, I guess that you're right in that plugins won't be supported widely anymore (as the web progresses towards more mobile/specialized devices).

A lot of the work in HTML5 and beyond (WebGL) make it possible to write very powerful JavaScript-based apps; with plugins only being necessary for very few "edgy" use cases.

Right now, the only plugin besides Flash in my main web browser is the Google Earth Plugin -- and I never really use it.

«Browsers will eventually stop supporting Flash (at least out of the box), but Flash will stay as a development platform for mobile devices.»
In what sense do you mean that browsers currently support flash out-of-the-box? To my knowledge, none of them come prepackaged with a flash runtime. Or do you mean that browsers will drop support for the NPAPI plugin architecture altogether?
