Meh. Safari's interface is crap, and can't be customized as easily or to the same degree ad Firefox's.

Hmm.. well, I forgot Firefox.

I develop for Firefox mainly, but test in both Firefox and Opera. Also I shift between the too, when it comes to surfing.

They are both good, make good supplement to each other.

Personally I still stick to Firefox for the extensions.

I like Safari, its the fastest browser I have ever seen, at least both surfing and Javascript. Only it is very slow on start-up. This is something that makes me not choose this browser. Another thing is, there is no drop-down in the address bar. Otherwise it is brilliant, really.

Chrome is too minimalistic for me, though it is extremely fast. Also I have read it is the safest broiwser of all, and I believe that. Since it has almost nothing buiklt in from start. Not even RSS-ability.

Opera is the most compliant browser of all. Noone beats it, and actually it is quite amazing, because both Chrome, Safari and now Firefox3.5 comes close, very close, in CSS3. Very, very usrr friendly indeed, the best of all in that. The speed is on the average, though.

IE8, I have little good to say, and a lot of not so-good.

I find it extremely illogical in the menustructure. There are still these "iframe-like" windows form around IE4, where you have to scroll, if you want to change setting, so it is in no way userfriendly either.

And it is the slowest browser I have tried. that counts for start-up, browsing, and Javascript. Also it has "glitches" still between sites, which none of Safari, Chrome or Opera have (Firefox has them on rare occations, but IE has always).

IE8 is the only browser not to understand anything of CSS3, which makes it "stone age" compared to others. Also it still has errors in CSS2. Embarrasing.

Great comparison. Love the breakdown. I'm a firefox user all the way...strictly for the plugin capability. The seo plugins alone make firefox the winner in my book. awesome for on the fly competitive analysis.

"Opera feels cranky and useless"
Excuse me? Opera is a lot faster than ff. Just because there aren't that many plugins for it doesn't mean it's useless. And the RSS reader is awesome!

Nice comparison, but in my everyday work as a webdesigner i have to say that Safari just doesn't do the trick. I also think that IE8 is much better than what you describe.

In a Windows PC i would say:
1- Chrome/Firefox for development
3- IE8
4- Opera

No vote for Safari.

Thomas Fuchs: "@Dapo I’ve concentrated on the top four browsers, plus released versions (Opera 10 is still in beta)."

And seemed to conveniently wait for Safari 4 to be released :)

Also, not sure where your Firebug crashes are coming from - works perfectly fine for me. Maybe being a huge Javascript dev means you stress Firebug a lot more than most!
